Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana has much to recommend as a vacation destination. However, as far as retail shopping is concerned it is eclipsed by shooing Meccas like New York – at least that is a common opinion. However, although Indianapolis may not have it’s very own Fifth Avenue it does have The Fashion Mall at Keystone – commonly known simply as ‘The Fashion Mall’.
It does have a great mixture of well-recognized retail outlets such as Nordstrom, The North Face, Pottery Barn, an Apple Store, Urban Outfitters, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Restoration Hardware, and the ever-popular Crate & Barrel, but there is an added attraction. Around 40% of the retail stores found in the mall can be found only in the state of Indiana. This provides a welcome difference from what is increasingly a ‘Cookie Cutter’ approach to mall retailing. The visitor to the mall, especially if they are from out of state will find products that they may not have been exposed to anywhere else outside of Indiana.
The popularity of the mall is reflected in its changing design. It currently consists of two two-story buildings. When it was first opened the two buildings were linked by a glass archway, with the one building being the food court. That archway has now been converted into additional retail space – testament to just how popular this mall has become.
For those with small children visiting the mall is far less stressful than visits to other retail outlets – for one simple reason – and that is parking. The Fashion Mall provides families with young children priority parking spaces. This may seem inconsequential in the grander scheme of things – but any parent with small kids will tell you that dragging them through (seemingly acres) of parking spaces can ruin an entire day.
As far as refreshment is concerned this mall ticks all the right boxes. The food court has been revitalized – and there are now healthy options to complement the common offerings of convenience food outlets. There are several exciting new additions to the food court, including Mimi Blue Meatballs. Both the Beef and Veggie Meatballs are a delight. Of course, there’s a P.F. Chang’s and a Starbucks – and a Cheesecake Factory and a Chipotle. you really will be spoiled for choice when it comes to offerings from national chains. However, dining destinations like Seasons 52 are a welcome addition due to their approach to healthy eating. Delicious and nutritious menu offerings.
The Fashion Mall is a great place to visit for those in search of a little retail therapy – or simply a great day out.
